Crazy busy in the last year, lots of good things, and bad things, and all the inbetween... and yes, lots of work. So much, it's going to take me a while to get it all up here... but for now, here's some recent stuff I've been able to get up here.

Tuesday is Monday for me. Class 8-10. Thankfully my mid day class ended last week so I had a good chunk in the afternoon to work on these... and of course, the wee hours of the morning. Internship show is tomorrow - All hands on deck!

As a part of my effort to be a little more current with my updates... here's this weeks STUFF!

Sketches and Color Comps for the final project in our costume class... My version of this character is strong willed, cunning, just, fair, and beautiful... also she is said to be from the land of "Bohemia" so my concept is that this is an alternative universe in a somewhat futuristic setting. The people of her land are the sort of "green" movement of the day and live a very alternative lifestyle. Therefore I'm incorporating tattoos in as a large part of how her costume works and thinking a lot about how it shows her skin and frames what is intended to be meaningful tattooing.

A couple longer poses from today, I chose to exaggerate and attempt making some interesting period compositions. We worked off of Nouveau and Deco fashion today. So my inspirations were Klimpt (an all time fave of mine along with Mucha) and then 1930s art deco fashion illustration. I LOVE these periods. So much.

Just a couple more quick landscape paintings from yesterday. Trying some new stuff out to see what happens. Attempting to get a variety of real painting/drawing effects using digital. A few experimental figure drawings too... heeey its the experimental post! =)

Midterm Update.

So It's been a while but only because I've been keeping really busy. Here's some of the classwork I've got going on right now.
Some random sketching for a sketch/style development project.

Work for my digital landscape class... these all range from about 15 minutes to about 40 minutes.

Official first attempt at ever drawing a figure using the computer, quite a different expirience I must say. At first I thought I was going to rip my hair out, by the end of class I was able to pull off some half decent sketches, these are those. Ill post of some REAL figure work as soon as I can remember to take pictures.

So this was my term project. The Never Ending Story.
I worked from the book, so this is an actual book adaptation.

I designed this as though it were a game... would'nt you agree it would make an awesome RPG? Even an MMO =)

Well ladies and gents.

Looks like another term has gone by at Art Center... congrats for making it through.

Little update on the wrist... its not better, this leaves me quite... annoyed.

I had intended on getting my chops up this summer, instead I spent it crossing my fingers that my wrist was going to be good to go for the fall term.

It looks like we're going to be A-OK fortunately, it has ceased spontaineous pain. Good thing. And now only really hurts when I really give it a good work out or... hold a pencil for an extended period of time. We're getting there.

Im confident, at least, that Ill make it now. But I admit, completely intimidated by the slate of 8 classes and 16 units... however, Im slightly happier about the fact that I wont have 18 units like many of the others... ouch, my heart goes out to you comrads... that english class is 4 units of gooooood times.

Anyway, DEFINITELY looking forward to the change of pace.
After the deadline for portfolios Ive had SOOOO MUCH NOTHING TO DO.

I have been SO BUSY with doing nothing.

Its deadly, dont do it. Summer sucks when you have nothing to fill your time up with (thanks modern medicine for prolonging the healing of my wrist, youre a champ)

So anyway, I just felt an update was needed... and hopefully ill have a little update before term starts... but uh, you know, dont sit on the edge of your seats pals (cause i KNOW you are)

Anyway, picked up a mini project for the next few weeks... so MAYBE ill eventually get to put some of that stuff up here. We shall see.

Righto, time for bed kids (past time, actually.)

Entertainment Design Portfolio

So this has been a pretty epic past two weeks. I must say.

It all started about 3 weeks ago when I was informed that the date for our first term entertainment design portfolios had been cut... in half.
Instead of four weeks, we had two.

Maybe to some of you this doesnt sound too bad. But when you find yourself facing the need to compile an entire portfolio that demonstrates good thinking skills, passion, consistency and skill... and you have to start from scratch. And you only had eight weeks in the first place... and then the last half gets cut in half... and theyre only accepting 18 people into this program.

You suddenly feel a sense of... dread.

So, the only option we had (I say "We" because I wasnt alone in this, my best friend Higgins was on this ride with me and we worked together the entire time) was to make up for the lost time... and not sleep.

We stocked up on energy drinks, energy candy bars, and food with lots of protein in it and set out on our mission.

A couple times we ended up sleeping in our cars. Almost every day we were up till 5 or 6 am working. We would show up to school each day that we didnt sleep in our cars between 10am-2pm and work till 5am again. This was almost every day, except for maybe one or two days where we left a little earlier (probably around 2 am.)
The last day I spent 18 hours straight in the computer lab - 5pm sunday night to 11am monday morning. And I didnt leave school until 7pm that night because of printer issues.

This is the short of the story. And it sounds like it was terrible... and parts of it were... but for the most part... it was fun, it was a lot of fun. Though... when I think about it, I get sleepy. lol.

So, we made it, we both did. And Tuesday morning we took our portfolios over and dropped them off so the next day they could be subjected to Elias and Scott.
Then we waited, and I was 50% scared and 50% excited. Thursday morning I woke up to my phone ringing and Higgins on the other side telling me to check my email.

I groaned and tried not to fling myself onto the floor from my loft bed. Plopped down in my chair... waited for my computer to boot up... fixed the internet... loaded gmail up.

And there it was an email straight from Mr. Scott Robertson himself informing me that my hard work had only just begun. Welcome to Entertainment Design!

Well, its all pretty much history from there. Or... future rather. There are going to be many more sleepless nights now... this is gonna be a lot of work. But Im SO up for it.

Commence Art Blog #2

So this is what I managed for a first post. Quick speed painting for a friends film Im probably going to be concepting for =)
Mostly just having fun here playing with complements (love those complements.) This is pretty much how I feel about hospitals... theyre satans bathroom.

Anyway, I'm getting ready for the portfolio crunch this summer, gonna be a lot more junk like this going up as the weeks go on... but the goal is, by week 9 of the summer term (mid-late july?) for my skills to be improved so drastically that you wont be able to compare this to what I will be able to do... thats the goal.

Reason? Well, for one... I simply must get into entertainment design. Two, I just need to do it, for myself... I need to really dedicate some serious time to my art and to proving to myself that I can compete with other artists... I want to get that much better at drawing, and to develop better color sensibilities. So. Heres the start of my endeavor. And, I suppose, this is an oath to myself that Im really going to commit to this. No matter what.

With that... here's a few older drawings...
Figure drawings from the first and second figure drawing classes I took... and the environment is from my stolen concept art project lol... these range from 1.5 years old (figure) to about 8 months old...
